Bianca Lopes is one of our 30 Inspirational Women in Canadian FinTech and Finance!
Bianca (@biasmlopes) originally hails from Brazil, and today she is a global influencer who is renowned for her entrepreneurial outlook on identity and technology. She is leading the charge to bring biometric authentication to banking. Here, she shares her best financial advice, opens up about her impressive career, and honours the women who inspired her along the way.
What are you most proud of accomplishing in your career?
BL: I see life as a continuous gift, and I’ve been fortunate to have mine filled with so many proud and magical moments. Recently, I was humbled and honoured to be named a Top Digital Influencer by Thomson Reuters and one of the 2018 Top 100 Influencers in Identity by One World Identity, alongside names like Edward Snowden and Mark Zuckerberg. I’m proud of my ability to adapt and change in the face of hardship, and I’m so grateful to have had the chance to learn about leadership from the mentors I’ve had throughout my career.
Who were the women that served as role models in your life?
BL: There is no shortage of brilliant minds in my industry, but one of my biggest role models was my grandmother. She was one of the first women in Brazil to graduate with a business degree. She was the right hand of the health minister in Brazil, and she did it all while raising four kids, going through a divorce and fighting polio. I have never met anyone else who was so curious and so grateful to be alive!
What was the best financial advice that you’ve ever received?
BL:I don’t feel the education system teaches our youth enough about finance, and unfortunately most banks do a poor job, too. The best advice I’ve received has been to not chase money. Instead, I invest in people and businesses that I’m passionate about and jump in with both feet. But trust me, I’ve had some yucky bank account statements along the way as an entrepreneur! It’s part of the journey.
